Could Self-mutilation be hereditary?
I bet you are wondering why I would choose such a topic as this. For those of you that do not know, I hope to be a psychologist after I get out of college. With psychology I have to understand why people do the things that they do.
This is a question I have been wondering for a while. When I was twelve I started to cut myself and I would have months where I would not eat much. How does this deal with the topic? I found out that my sister had the same problem as I did. In february of this year I found out that my dad was also a self mutilator. He would cut himself as a teenager. When he was older he became an alcoholic. Could it have something to do with heredity? My grandfather on my Dad's side of the family committed suicide. Besides my father and my sister I found out that my brother also had problems with anorexia.
I know for a fact that depression is hereditary.
